Graham is an experienced road safety practitioner having worked in local government, with road safety charities and now runs his own consultancy. He has strong links with the driver training industry having had experience in developing driver improvement schemes, speed workshops and drink drive rehabilitation courses in the early days. He provides support to those who are looking to become driver trainers and getting them to understand that driving is not just about teaching “mechanical skills.” He is the road safety adviser to the ADI National Joint Council and actively supports the work of the Motor Schools Association of GB. He is a member of the Parliamentary Council for Transport Safety and also a member of the UK National Road Safety Committee which he was Chairman for 12 years stepping down in 2023.

Kathy has progressed from being a franchisee of a national driving school to running her own multi car driving school and encourages her instructors to undergo regular CPD, in the way of free weekly classroom sessions, which cover a variety of topics from fault identification to multicultural communication, and everything in between.She is a published author, writing ‘An Insight to Drive’, a training quality monitor across all the police diversionary courses and runs a small business outside of the driver training industry. She is a firm believer that having only one income stream is a dangerous place to be. Having said all that, she has not lost sight of the real world and still has a good sense of humour and enjoys working with people.When she is not working, she enjoys church bellringing, tai chi, and amateur dramatics.

Charles, before his retirement in 2012, spent the last ten years of his career with The Driving Standards Agency, the last six years being Registrar of Approved Driving Instructors. Within the Institute, Charles has responsibility for the Institute’s Annual Industry Awards.

He has been a member of IMTD since 2009.

I qualified as an ADI in 1969, as you obtained a Grade 6. I worked for Haltemprice School of Motoring for many years, but when the owner retired, I became self-employed. Thirty years ago or so, I started working for Hull City Council when they had the contract for all NSAC courses. Humberside Police took over, and I continued to pursue all training courses with them until COVID-19. I hold a Diamond Advanced Instructor Qualification and am a Fleet driver trainer. I am a keen supporter of my local football team and enjoy match fishing for carp.
